Determination of Dynamic Soil Properties Using Geophysical Methods

چکیده
The analysis of foundation vibrations and geotechnical earthquake engineering problems in civil engineering requires characterization of dynamic soil properties using geophysical methods. Dynamic structural analysis of the superstructures also requires knowledge of the dynamic response of the soilstructure, which, in turn relies on dynamics soil properties. Machine vibrations, blasting and seismic events are example so the type of dynamic input that an engineered systems may be subjected to. Geophysical methods are often used to characterize the dynamic soil properties of the subsurface. Field methods discussed in this section will focus on the low-strain tests that are not large enough to induce significant non-linear non-elastic stress strain behavior, they include: seismic refraction and reflection, suspension logging, steady-state vibration, down-hole, seismic cross-hole, spectral analysis of surface waves, and seismic CPT. Some reference is made of other non-geophysical tests used in geotechnical earthquake engineering that focus on the large-strain response of soils.

Estimating of geotechnical properties of clay soil with dynamic cone penetration (DCP) test
Dynamic cone penetration (DCP) test is used more in pavement design and construction, and less for subsurface geotechnical investigation and clay core dam. In the present article, evaluating geotechnical parameters of Sanandaj’s clay in the western region of Iran using the DCP test was taken into account. Accordingly, 6 trial pits with maximum depths of 15 m were excavated manually in various s...
متن کاملReducing the Forces Caused by Earthquake on Retaining Walls Using Granulated Rubber-Soil Mixture
In recent years, various studies have been undertaken on how to use waste materials in civil engineering projects. Among waste materials, waste rubber has been highlighted to be used for different purposes such as reinforcing of soil and making of reinforced slopes. To investigate the properties of granulated rubber-soil mixture and its application in making of slopes behind retaining walls, so...
متن کاملDetermination of the linear and non-linear relationships between soil erodibility factor and effective parameters on it in a mountainous watershed with severe soil erosion
Soil erodibility factor is a criterion of soil particle resistance to detachment, transport, and effects of erosivity factors (rain drop, runoff, and wind) during the soil loss processes. In this study, non-linear support vector machines (SVMs) method was used for investigating the effects of some topography, soil physical and mechanical properties on soil erodibility in a part of Northern Karo...

Determination of the pile capacity is always a major concern for the safe geotechnical engineering design. Different direct and indirect methods have been proposed for determining pile bearing capacity such as static and dynamic approaches. Each method depends on the condition of the soil and type of pile as well as accessibility to necessary information. In this study bearing capacity of drive...
